Julia Kuzmenko McKim produced, styled, shot, and edited both the film and the stills for Melt Cosmetics’ Lip Grit Sugar Scrub.
After more than a decade in beauty photography, I have developed a deep curiosity about filmmaking. Short videos like this one are a way for me to get the reps in.
Anyone who has made this leap will tell you how much there is to learn when you move from still, silent imagery into motion. At the same time, we are way ahead of complete beginners: we know a lot about lenses, cameras, framing, composition, color, and the dynamics of production and post.
This was one of my first steps into the magical world of moving images.
The stills were shot on a Canon R5 C mirrorless camera with my favorite 100mm macro lens, and Broncolor lighting. The film part of the project was captured on BlackMagic 6K using GVM LED continuous lighting, plus a few generated frames cut into the edit.
